In a relief to farmers, Punjab power utility PSPCL today decided to bear the replacement cost of transformers under the Own Your Tubewell (OYT) scheme.

"On the persistent demand of farmers who have availed Agriculture Pumpset (AP) connections under OYT scheme, PSPCL has decided to replace burnt or stolen transformers at its own cost," Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd CMD K D Chaudhri said today.

Farmers have been facing difficulty in replacement of transformers and they have raised this issue with the management of PSPCL.

Finding their demand as genuine, PSPCL decided that cases where OYT transformers are damaged or stolen, these shall be replaced at PSPCL's cost, he said.

Under OYT scheme, farmers bear the cost of setting up transformers for tubewell connection.

Chaudhri said PSPCL has also decided to augment transformers installed under OYT scheme at PSPCL's cost, for farmers who opt for Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) which has been extended up to 31 August.

CMD asked farmers to declare their actual load of motors and opt for VDS which will help PSPCL to augment distribution system and transformers accordingly and ensure 8 hours uninterrupted power supply to them.
