Press Trust of India has decided to enhance its presence in the digital media to meet the growing appetite for information and news, the agency's Chairman Homos Cama said today.

Addressing the shareholders at the 68th Annual General Meeting (AGM) here, he said that PTI news will be tailored for a variety of platforms.

Cama informed the shareholders that a far-reaching restructuring of the top levels of the management had been undertaken by the Board with the position of Editor-in-Chief and CEO being split to seize the opportunities that will arise from the changing media landscape.

A new CEO Venky Venkatesh, an alumni of IIM (Ahmedabad) has taken over. He had previously worked with Hindustan Unilever and the Hindustan Times.

Cama appreciated the long and distinguished service rendered to PTI by M K Razdan, who will be retiring at the end of this month after serving the agency for 51 years, 21 of them as Editor-in-Chief and CEO.

"His role in strengthening and expanding PTI to what it is today has been truly significant," he said.

The Chairman particularly commended Razdan's "outstanding work" as an Editor and told the shareholders, "Leading from the front, he has made PTI services strong and vibrant while adhering to PTI's core values of providing unbiased and reliable news."

Cama said PTI news services--English service, Hindi service (Bhasha)--as well as Photo service continued to have excellent showing during the year.

The English service cornered nearly 98 per cent of the news quotes and the average impact of the Hindi service was 94 per cent. Despite challenge from foreign agencies, PTI photo service garnered 90 per cent of the agency photos.
