"The District Magistrate, Srinagar (Basheer Ahmad Khan) has imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC on the movement of public and transport in jurisdiction of six police stations in Srinagar city till further orders", an official spokesman said.

The police stations in which restrictions shall remain in effect are Khanyar, Nowhatta, Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safakadal and Kralkhud.

"The step has been taken in view of the law and order situation in Srinagar district and to avoid breach of peace and tranquility as well as damage to life and property", the spokesman said.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar has been directed to implement the order in letter and spirit, he added.

The restriction orders have been imposed following the fire in the 200-year-old Dastageer Sahib shrine in Khanyar area of the city yesterday leading to clashes in which over 50 persons were injured.
