Public prevents firm from dumping waste in pit

: A private solid waste management company which had reportedly not paid its electric bills was today prevented by public at nearby Maniyanoor from dumping its waste in a pit.

Municipal corporation mayor S Soundappan said the unit, which was turning waste into plastic bricks.They were treating 300 tonnes of waste into nearly 100 products, had stopped production following non payment of bill.

RDO talked with the mill management to pay the dues before Jan 30. Before that the public started agitating and did not allow the firm to dump the garbage in a pit

The corporation, which has already acquired 100 acres in that area to dump solid waste, said it would not affect pollution or drinking water or ground water.
