Publishers should pay lump sum, say authors

: Authors of books today said publishers should come forward to pay them either good compensation or a lumpsum, depending on the worth and original work, while publishers claimed that lump sum payment was not not good for both.

However, royalty compensation can be given to authors and they were given complimentary copies and provided royalty, the published said.

This was one of the major points which came up in an interaction between authors and publishers at the the three day Mega Book Fair, which concluded at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here today.

Authors felt effective business models to market books among students in academic institutions should be adopted by publishers, who felt the need for linkage and coordination arrangements with Universities to publish curriculum based text books in various discipline of Agriculture.
 

Publishers may also give emphasis on printing quality, writing style and readability and such factors, while considering a book for publication since it would also motivate readers to read more contents from a book, authors

Publishers said they can maintain printing quality, depending on marketability of books.
