People's Union for Civil Liberty has opposed the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), which is proposed to pass from parts of Rajasthan, saying it will cast an adverse impact on locals.

"Rajasthan's 58 per cent area, mostly rural, is under the influence of the project and will have a serious impact on locals, environment and food security so we have decided to oppose it," Kavita Srivastava, the PUCL General Secretary told reporters here.

"We will run an awareness campaign in the area which is proposed to be covered under the project and we are drawing its strategy," she said.

The move came after a group of activists associated with different organisations, which began its campaign against the DMIC in Mumbai, arrived here today and held discussions with people from Alwar, Kishangarh (Ajmer), Bhilwara here.

"The entire project will affect agriculture on large scale in the country which will create a problem for food security and also make lakhs of people jobless. The impact on environment is also going to be negative so we are opposing the project," Madhuresh, a team member who came here from Mumabi, said.
