The Puducherry unit of AIADMK today urged late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's close aide and confidante V K Sasikala to take over the leadership of the party.

Addressing reporters here, the AIADMK legislature wing leader A Anbalagan said, Chinnamma (as they have come to refer to Sasikala) had been through thick and thin of the former Chief Minister and had also taken care of her "as a close confidante and loving mother."

It was the wish of a large section of cadres of the party that 'Chinnamma' become the General Secretary of the party.

To a query on groupism in AIADMK, Anbalagan said, there was no groupism in the AIADMK in Puducherry as had been rumoured by some vested interests.

The AIADMK leader also appealed to Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to adopt a resolution in the cabinet to recommend to the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on Jayalalithaa which would only add to the proud services she had rendered for the poor.
