Press Trust of India Puducherry
Union Territory of Puducherry, which would normally receive an average 76.7 cms of rainfall during north east monsoon (October to December), recorded as much as 83.4 cm rains in the month of November.

This was an unprecedented quantum of rainfall that Puducherry received in November alone, said a release from the office of Lt Governor A K Singh.

The release said that depression in Bay of Bengal has brought unprecedented rains and release of excess water from Sathanur and Veedur dams in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu districts had resulted in the water in Thamaraparani and Sankarabarani rivers in Puducherry flowing to capacity.

It said the people living close to the river banks were evacuated to safer places.

The water level in the two major lakes in Bahoor and Oussudu here reached their full capacity.
