Puducherry will be hut free in next five years: CM

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today said that with the government implementing the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Union Territory would emerge hut free in the next five years.

He was talking reporters after handing over housing subsidy under the PMAY to 126 poor families to enable them replace the huts with concrete structures.

Under the PMAY, presently 3843 families from all the 30 assembly segments were covered, he said.

The scheme had been implemented by Pondicherry Slum Clearance Board.

Narayanasamy said that each of these families was handed today Rs 70,000 each as the first instalment of total subsidy of Rs two lakh.
 

The remaining part of the subsidy would be available according to the progress of construction, he said.
