Consumers hit by the sky rocketing prices of pulses will have to wait till mid-November for the prices to drop, Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma has said.

"We expect that the normalcy will return by Mid-November when the new crop arrives the market," he told media here today.

As Odisha is a pulse consuming state the government has requested the Centre to make adequate arrangement for supply of additional pulses at the earliest. "We have told them to supply pulses through MMTC (Metal and Mineral Trading Corporation)," Dasburma said.

Admitting that the price of pulses in open market was high, the minister said consumers have to pay a heavy price for all kinds of pulses including arhar, which is being sold at the rape of above Rs 150 per kg.

Production of pulses in the country has come down by 25 per cent due to scanty rainfall this year, he said adding the shortfall in the production had triggered the jump in its price.

While price of arhar dal has crossed Rs 160 per kg as against Rs 84 per kg in May, moong dal is selling at Rs 120 per kg.
