With a seven-match unbeaten streak behind them, Pune FC entered the match as confident as they should to deservedly beat Lajong for the first time in their I-League history.
Lajong boys, on the other hand, were unlucky to have missed several open opportunities.
Striker Jeje Lalpekhlua opened the visitors' account in the 30th minute when he netted a cross ball from Karma Tsewang inside the box.
Jeje, who was injured in the melee, was immediately replaced by Khanthang Paite who went on to score the winning goal for Pune in the opening third minute of the second half.
Lajong's in-form striker Sushil Kumar was well guarded by Pune's keeper Abhra Mondal even as the goalie denied him a goal from as many as four clear shots from very close range.
