With a view to make Pune a world-class city, its Municipal Corporation is considering preparing an economic master plan that will lay the guidelines for carrying out development in the IT hub.
"Currently we have plans which are either land-use specific or some development plans. But these plans lack the basic implementability as development needs to be undertaken in a holistic way. We are, therefore, preparing an economic master plan for the next 20 years," Municipal Commissioner K Kumar told PTI on the sidelines of an event here.
He said the next level of growth can only be achieved if there is an economic plan in place.

"Certain cities are developed without any plan. But to achieve the next level of growth, there has to be a plan which will lay guidelines for undertaking future sectoral developments in the city," Kumar said.
PMC is working with Pune Action Task Force to prepare the plan and has appointed consultants like McKinsey to conduct a detailed study.
"Pune has been established as an IT hub. Now we want to explore other sectors where we can achieve similar growth. It could be in sectors like agriculture, automobiles, industries, among others," he said.
