Police today booked former Pune deputy mayor and sitting NCPcorporatorDipak Mankar on charge of abetting suicide of a 53-year-old man and arrested five persons in this regard.

Mankar, along with city-based builder Sudhir Karnataki and five others were allegedly named by the deceased Jitendra Jagtap in a suicide note purportedly written by him, a police officer said.

Jagtap, brother of Pune Police personnel, allegedly killed himself by jumping in front of a running train near here on June 2.

As per preliminary investigation, Jagtap and Mankar were locked in a land dispute in Pune and the former had claimed that Mankar and others were harassing him, according to the officer.

"Based on the suicide note, we booked Mankar and others on charge of abatement of suicide and so far we have arrested five people in the case," the senior officer of Samarth police station said.

He said police had gone to Mankar's residence after a case was registered but he could not be found.
