Approved by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at a high-level meeting here, the 'Total Urban Revamp Plan' aims at executing civic projects in a time-bound manner.

Chairing the meeting, Badal asked the principal secretary (local government) to develop civic infrastructure like sewerage, water supply, better roads and street lighting at all the 142 urban centres through the proposed agency.

Projects like construction of over-bridges and improvement of traffic facilities will also be implemented by the agency, he said, adding that besides development of infrastructure, the agency will also look after their maintenance in the longer period.

The purpose behind execution of all projects through a single-window agency is to bring synergy in their implementation and ensure accountability, he said.

It was informed during the meeting that a fund of Rs 980 crore will be required to take up the coverage of water supply in cities to 100 per cent from the existing 88 per cent.

Similarly, Rs 2,759 crore will be required to complete remaining 37 per cent sewerage network in the cities.

The meeting was also attended by Local Government Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat and Forests Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani.
