To ensure holistic growth of rural areas, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed officials to develop infrastructure in villages.

Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) has been asked to amend relevant provisions of the law to pave way for making investments on infrastructure development works in villages, according to a statement.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who also holds the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development, asked its Secretary to bring an agenda to this effect in the next Cabinet meeting for approval, so that a bill related to this amendment could be brought in the ensuing budget session of the Punjab Assembly, the statement said.

Addressing a meeting of various development authorities PUDA, GMADA, GLADA, JDA, BDA and PDA, the Chief Minister asked his deputy to ensure speedy implementation of development works in colonies which were recently regularised so as to provide basic civic amenities to the residents.

The Deputy CM asked the Local Government and Housing & Urban Development departments to jointly work out a mechanism to complete the work at the earliest.

Sukhbir also apprised the Chief Minister that an ambitious plan comprising 40 schemes for 32 towns would be implemented in a time-bound manner.
