Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today ordered a judicial probe into the alleged "book scam" in the state.

Badal has entrusted the probe to retired Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice A N Jindal to find out the truth into alleged irregularities in purchase of books for primary and upper primary school libraries, science kits and supply of map masters.

Under fire for alleged irregularities in the purchase of books for government schools, Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka yesterday said, he was ready for a probe by any independent agency into the matter.

Meanwhile, responding to questions on the sidelines of a function in Jalandhar, Badal said, any decision in regard to Maluka would be taken after scrutiny of official records.

Maluka had said that he would request the Chief Minister to get the matter inquired by any agency, except education department to find out the truth.

Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa had yesterday sought a CBI probe into the alleged "book scam" in the state education department and charged Maluka of misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 9.50 crore.
