Ridiculing the Congress for not paying tribute to Bhagat Singh at his native village, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said here that the party was apathetic towards the contribution of the freedom fighter.

The Congress could have planned the coronation ceremony of its new state president on some other day rather than giving a miss to such a historic day, Badal said while addressing a state-level function organised to pay tribute to the legendary martyr on his 82nd martyrdom day.

"Congress leaders must not forget that they have been enjoying the fruits of power because of sacrifices made by these legendary heroes," he said.

The Congress has never acknowledged the valuable contribution of the martyrs in national freedom struggle and its absence today is a testimony to it, Badal said.

Taking a dig at the People's Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal, the Chief Minister said that he had constituted his political party from here, but seems that he also forgot the date of martyrdom of great heroes and is not present here today.
