The function was organised by the party at the Congress Bhawan, which was presided over by the state general secretary Arvind Khanna and attended by senior leaders and legislators.

Speaking on the occasion, Khanna said that the history of Congress during the last 127 years is the "history of India".

The Congress leaders and workers took an oath resolving to observe and follow the principles and ideals set by legendary leaders of the party, including Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Among others present on the occasion included senior leaders and party MLAs Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhi Randhawa, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Nirmal Rampal and others.

Meanwhile, the party blasted the claims of the Akali-BJP government that Punjab was the "safest state" in the country as recently claimed by the state government on the floor of the Punjab Assembly.

Khanna, who is also an MLA from Dhuri, alleged that it is not the matter of statistics that the government is trying to seek solace from but the actual fear factor prevailing across Punjab.
