Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar on Thursday chaired a meeting of cabinet ministers and party MLAs from Malwa region to review preparations for a rally of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in Killianwali village in Lambi -- the home constituency of Akali patriarch Parkash Singh Badal.
The rally will be held on October 7 and will coincide with one by opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Patiala -- the home turf of Singh.
The aim of the rally in Lambi is to "expose the dubious and hypocritical face" of SAD leaders who did politics in the name of 'Panth' (Sikh community) and then stabbed the 'Panth' in the back for their "vested political interest", a party release quoted Jhakar as saying.
He said SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal could not run away from responsibility of events that took place during his tenure as the state's home minister.
Sukhbir was the home minister of the state when the shootout in Behbal Kalan took place and even after being repeatedly asked by the people of Punjab he did not say who ordered the firing, Jhakar, MP from Gurdaspur, said.
He said people have been very enthusiastic since Singh announced the rally in Lambi and claimed the event will witness a historic gathering.
Lauding the Congress-led dispensation, Jhakar said the government implemented the historic decision of debt waiver for farmers and picked up farmers' commodities from mandies without any delay.
