While asking for Singh's intervention, Punjab Congress general secretary Arvind Khanna said, "The way the Government of India took up the matter with the US authorities about the racial and unprovoked attack on the Wisconsin Gurdwara, it should raise the security of Hindus and Sikhs with the government there."

He claimed that attacks on the two communities had increased in Pakistan and a number of such people had already crossed over to this part of Punjab, scared to go back.

The Central and state governments should also provide relief to these people, he said, adding that political asylum should be granted to all those Hindus from Pakistan who wanted to stay back.

He hoped that "the Pakistan government, like the US, will take the Indian concern in right spirit and make necessary interventions to restore the confidence of the Hindus and Sikhs."
