The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today claimed in a statement that paddy growers in Punjab were not being paid in a timely manner.

The statement quoted AAP state co-president Aman Arora as saying that the issue of delayed payment was brought to his notice by several farmers and commission agents during a recent visit to the grain markets.

They claimed they were made to wait for more than 15 days to get their payments which resulted in a delay in the sowing of wheat crop, Arora said.

Any delay in payment from the government leads to the farmers incurring penalties as they have to repay loans taken from banks and co-operative societies in a time-bound manner, Arora added.

He demanded that the government must ensure timely payments.
