Punjab farmers paid Rs 15,473 cr for wheat purchase

Wheat growers in Punjab were paid to the tune of Rs 15,473.15 crore for procurement of 118.17 lakh tonnes of wheat during ongoing rabi marketing season.

Farmers are being paid within 48 hours of crop lifting, an official spokesman said.

He said Sangrur district was leading in wheat production and farmers of this area were paid Rs 1,393.64 crore for wheat purchase, followed by Bathinda farmers at Rs 1,163.13 crore and then Ludhiana where farmers were paid Rs 1,144.38 crore.

The spokesman further said wheat payment in Amritsar was Rs 748.34 crore, Tarn taran Rs 801.96 crore, Gurdaspur Rs 574.80 crore, Pathankot Rs 45.10 crore, Kapurthala Rs 506.79 crore, Jalandhar Rs 694.83 crore, Hoshiarpur Rs 346.39 crore and Nawan Shehar Rs 296.46 crore.
