Punjab Food and Civil Supplies minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today met Union Food minister Ram Vilas Paswan in Delhi and sought his intervention in the non-reimbursement of expenditure incurred over transportation and purchase of gunny bags.
Bhushan pointed out that the state was facing financial losses because of non-reimbursement of expenditure.
An official release quoting Bhushan said he sought immediate intervention of Paswan to expedite the matter.
Conceding to the long pending demand of Punjab, the Centre has agreed to release the pending payment of Rs 950 crore out of which 50 per cent would be released immediately and the remaining amount too would be released on priority, said Bhushan.
He said Punjab has been included as a member in the committee formed to look into transportation cost related issues.
He said during the Central pool procurement operations, the state government and its agencies had to suffer loss of approximately Rs 1,100 crore for paddy and Rs 300 crore for wheat every year.
