Punjab Forest and Wildlife Preservation Department today said it has mooted a plan to prepare a wildlife atlas which will contain detailed information about wild animals and their habitat.
An official spokesperson of the department said this atlas will focus on those animals which are on the verge of extinction and also those whose strength has been reduced due to poaching activities and environmental changes.
The spokesperson said with the atlas, tourists would get first-hand information about wildlife in the state, especially in Shiwalik area which alone has more than 300 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 55 species of fish and 19 species of wild animals.
The atlas will also contain maps which will be useful in locating the exact habitat of animals, it was informed.
