Punjab government has come with a Rs 100 crore comprehensive plan to clean and maintain ponds in the villages of the state.
The government had conducted a survey and identified around 325 ponds in 10,396 villages that would be cleaned in the first phase, a Rural Development and Panchayat Department spokesperson said here today.
"Government has launched a pilot project with an outlay of Rs 100 crore to clean and maintain village ponds and our department has already conducted a survey in this regard," he said.

The state government has identified 10,396 villages where the ponds would be cleaned, he said, adding the total area of the ponds was 24,905 acre.
The spokesperson further said that 325 ponds would be cleaned in the first phase.
"Under the cleanliness drive, weed and silt would be removed. Surrounding wall of the ponds would be constructed by three feet and chambers for the animals would also be made in every pond," he said.
