Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore today said the state government is fully committed towards the welfare of the serving soldiers and the ex-servicemen.
Presiding over the 32nd meeting of Rajya Sainik Board, he said an effective redressal mechanism is at work for mitigating their grievances.
Badnore has asked the officials present in the meeting to restructure their programmes and involve maximum ex-servicemen and students in their development projects.
He also asked them to formulate an extensive action plan catering to the educational and healthcare needs of the families of the ex-servicemen in the state, an official spokesman said.
The governor further asked the officers to ensure setting up of district sainik sadans in the newly-created districts of the state.
Construction of district sainik sadan in Mohali has been completed, whereas the land has been allotted for the project in Mansa and SBS Nagar.
Similar sadans would be set up at Moga, Barnala, Pathankot and Taran Tarn within a year, Badnore said.
He said that Punjab has the maximum number of ex-servicemen and the state government was extending all the facilities to them.
He said the ex-servicemen have a great potential and experience achieved by them during their active military career and can prove to an effective instrument of change for the transformation of society.
State Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said two more Sainik Schools would be setup in the state whereas the existing educational institutions meant for the children of the ex-servicemen would be upgraded.
He said that the government is also contemplating to establish fast track courts for settling issues of the serving defence personnel in a time bound manner.
