Punjab govt announces names of Shiromani awards' winners

Punjab government today announced the names of the winners of the Shiromani awards of the Language Department for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The announcement was made today by Higher Education and Languages Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra. The names were finalised in a meeting of Advisory board constituted for the same, said an official release.

Announcing the names, Rakhra said that one award in each category is to be given for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 under which three winners have been named.

Punjabi Sahit Rattan award has been bestowed upon Kirpal Singh Kasel, Ajmer Aulakh and Niranjan Singh Tasneem. These eminent personalities would be awarded with the prize money of Rs 10 lakh each, he said.
 

Rakhra said winners of 17 other categories will be given prize money of Rs 5 Lakh each.

Prominent literature figures including Mohan Bhandari Baldev Singh Sadaknama and Avtar Singh Bling were chosen for the Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar Award, he said.

Mahesh Patialavi, Mohd Iqbal and Renu Behal were selected by the board for Shiromani Hindi Sahitkar, the minister said.

Shashidhar Sharma, Bhushan Lal Sharma and Lekh Raj Parwana will be honoured with Shiromani Sanskrit Sahitkar Shashidhar.

The Punjab government has decided to accord Shiromani Punjabi Poet Award to Jaswinder (Gazalgo), Gurbhajan Gill and Kulwant Singh Grewal.

Giving the details of other awards, the minister said Dr Surjit Singh Bhatti, Dr Balkar Singh and Dr Tejwant Gill have been chosen for Shiromani Punjabi Critic/Research Sahitkar.

Balwant Singh Kotha Guru, Dr Kirpal Singh and Professor Aschru Singh will be honoured with Shiromani Punjabi Gyan Sahitkar award.

To honour prominent literary NRI personalities, the board has selected Kesar Singh Neer, Gurbhaksh Singh Bhandal and Ajit Singh Rahiunder for Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar (foreign).

To give impetus to Children literature, Santosh Sahni, Aatma Singh Chitti and Amrik Singh Talwandi were chosen for Shiromani Punjabi Bal Sahit Writer. Shiromani Punjabi Patarkar Award went to Amar Singh Bhuller, Harjinder Singh Lal and Bhushan Sood.

Niranjan Singh Sathi, Susheel Dosanjh and Varinder Walia were selected by the board for Shiromani Punjabi Sahitak Patarkar.

Rakhra said Purskar Buta Singh Shad, Satish Kaul and Baldev Gill were selected for Shiromani Punjabi Television/Radio/Film. Devinder Daman, Gurcharan Channi and Pali Bhupinder were named for Shiromani Punjabi Natak/Theatre Purskar.

The Higher Education and Languages Minister said for Shiromani Punjabi Singer/Sangeetkat; Mohd Sadeeq, Gurdas Mann and Surinder Shinda have been chosen.
