Punjab government has asked all its officers to enrol with National Digital Locker System (NDLS) to store and access government documents online.

Governance Reforms department has issued directions to all Administrative Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners for enrolment of all officers and other officials under NDLS, a spokesperson said today.

The sole aim of digital locker scheme was to place all educational, medical, passport and PAN card details of every Indian in a digital form over a cloud storage system so that citizens could access them from anywhere in the world without having to carry all the documents physically, he said.

The spokesperson said this concept would be linked to Aadhaar cards enabling citizens to store and access all their government issued documents (right from birth certificate to degrees) on the cloud storage system by using their UID numbers.

Data would be protected by a one-time password, which would be sent to the user's mobile via an SMS every time he tries to log in to his digital locker, much in the same manner as online banking transaction, he said.
