Punjab govt earmarks Rs 8 cr for poor students

Aiming at imparting free quality education to the poor students of the state, the Punjab government has decided to provide Rs eight crore as financial assistance in this regard from next month.

While informing this here today, state Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka said that the SAD-BJP combine government was committed to provide quality education to the poor and weaker sections of the society.

He said that the students studying in government school securing 80 per cent or more marks in matriculation examination would be given an annual assistance of Rs 30,000 for their two year senior secondary education (11th and 12th class) from April.
