Terming the martyrs as the nation's asset, Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said, the government was aware of the contributions and sacrifices of the brave soldiers from the state and was bound to look after their families.
Majithia, who attended the death rituals in the memory soldier Satnam Singh, a resident of village Pandori Sukha Singh who lost his life in December 5 militant attack in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, paid homage to the martyred soul here on behalf of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
He said Punjab not just made maximum contribution in making the country self sufficient in food grains, but it was also proud to be a state whose many sons have laid down their lives, guarding the country's borders.

He said since the election process was in progress in Jammu and Kashmir and people were coming out in large numbers to vote so the militants were frustrated due to the overwhelming response to ballot.
He said although eleven security force personnel eight soldiers and three policemen were killed in this attack yet all the six militants involved in the attack were killed in the counter attack.
Virsa Singh Valtoha, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sainik Welfare Department handed over a cheque of Rs 9 lakh as finincial aid on behalf of Punjab government to Partap Singh father of deceased Satnam Singh.
On this occasion, former MLA from the region Harpartap Singh announced on behalf of Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Amrinder Singh, who is also MP from Amritsar, an amount of Rs 2 lakh for the construction of a memorial of the martyr.
