Punjab government today issued an advisory directing all government departments to take suitable decisions within 20 days on pending cases where the vigilance bureau had sought their nod to prosecute a state official.

After receiving sanction from the respective department, the vigilance bureau's investigating officer would complete the probe within three months, an official spokesman said here.

The probe report would then be submitted to the department concerned, which would have to take appropriate action on the basis of the same within a period of two months.

"The government departments have been prohibited from starting parallel inquiries in those cases which have already been forwarded to the vigilance bureau for investigation," he said.

He said it had been noticed that the administrative departments often kept postponing sanction for prosecution, which led to delays in the process of investigation by the vigilance bureau.
