Punjab govt issues instructions on payment of ex-gratia

Continuing with implementation of the 5th Punjab Pay Commission recommendations regarding pension and other retirement benefits, Punjab government has issued instructions on payment of ex-gratia for death of government employees under different circumstances.

A state finance department spokesperson today said ex-gratia payment shall be made at a rate of Rs one lakh in cases of death in harness or if the employee is permanently disabled and rendered unfit for further service.

In case where death occurs in harness due to causes attributable to service, for reasons which are directly or substantially connected with performance of official duties, payment of ex-gratia shall be equal to 24 times of the employee's revised basic pay on the date of his/her death, with a minimum of Rs two lakh and maximum of Rs four lakh, he said.
 

Similarly, if death occurs in performance of duty such as dealing with riots, terrorist attack or enemy action, ex-gratia of Rs ten lakh will be paid on a uniform basis, he added.

The instructions shall be deemed to have come into with effect from January 1, 2006, the spokesperson said.
