Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today asked the state government to explain what happened to Rs 600 crore loan it had taken from the Bank of Japan for laying out drainage system in Amritsar.
Reacting to the flooding here due to heavy rain today, the Amritsar MP said the state government owed an explanation to the people of Amritsar as what did it do with that money which has to be paid back to the bank.
The Punjab Congress Committee President said, had the money, taken as loan, been utilised properly, Amritsar would not have faced the problem of flooding and waterlogging like it faced today.
Amarinder pointed out that if this can happen to the holy city of Amritsar, which is visited everyday by thousands of people from across the world, one can well imagine the plight of other places in the state.
