There is no shortage of urea fertiliser for the ongoing crop season in Punjab, an official spokesman said here today.

He said farmers should not to be worried in this regard as the state has arranged adequate quantity of urea to meet their demand.

The total availability of urea is at 12,44,100 MT and an adequate stock has already been supplied to cooperative societies and private dealers across the state, he added.

Total availability of DAP is 3,84,164 MT for the current Rabi season.

He said that for the Rabi season, the State Department of Agriculture has given greater attention on timely sowing of wheat in about 35 lakh hectares.

The estimated production of wheat during 2015-16 is 168.1 lakh metric tonnes (LMTs) as against 150 LMTs during the previous year, he said.

The state has implemented Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme during Rabi season 2015-16.

It has given subsidy of Rs 1,000 per quintal by transferring the amount to bank accounts of eligible farmers, he said.

In all, more than 3 lakh farmers have availed the benefit. Of this, over 70 per cent are small and marginal farmers, he added.
