Light rainfall occurred in a few areas of Punjab and Haryana today, bringing down maximum temperatures, even as chiefly dry conditions prevailed in northern India.
In Delhi, it a hot and humid day today in the absence of any rainfall with the maximum recorded a notch above normal at 34.2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum in the national capital, on the other hand, dipped two notches below normal to settle at 25.8 degrees.
But Delhiites complained of sweating under partially cloudy skies with the humidity in air fluctuating between 47 and 83 per cent.
In Uttar Pradesh, the flood situation registered an improvement with water levels in major rivers having started to recede.
"The water level in major rivers is receding. Though many of them are still flowing above danger mark, the flood situation is improving," sources said.
However, the Ganga at Ballia, Sharda at Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur), Ghaghra at Turtipar (Ballia), Rapti at Balrampur and Gorakhpur, Budhi Rapti at Kakrahi and Quano at Gonda were still flowing above the danger mark, according to the office of the state relief commissioner.
In rainfall in the state in the past 24 hours, weather officials said that Saharanpur-Katarnia Ghat in Bahraich received showers measuring 90mm followed by Pallia Kalan in Lakhimpur with 70mm.
Light rains in Punjab and Haryana, meanwhile, caused a slight dip in the mercury across the two neighbouring states today.
Union Territory of Chandigarh, which received rainfall this morning, recorded a maximum of 31.5 degrees.
Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab, too, saw light rainfall and registered maximums of 31.6 and 31.9 degrees, respectively.
In Haryana, Ambala received light showers with the maximum there settling at 30.2 degrees, down two notches.
The forecast is for light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana over the coming two days.
