It was an overcast sky in Chandigarh. Some parts received just a drizzle but the maximum temperature dropped by four notches to settle at 37.8 deg C, MeT officials said.
Ambala, Rohtak and Gurgaon in Haryana also received light showers, they said.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 40.6 deg C, five notches down against yesterday's temperature, while Ludhiana and Patiala which received light rains settled at a high of 37.4 deg C and 37 deg C respectively.
The region had been under the grip of sweltering heat for the past several days with mercury hovering between 42 and 46 deg C.
