Punjab, Haryana sizzle; but relief may be in sight

Sizzling temperatures coupled with power cuts added to the woes of people across Punjab, Haryana today, but the MeT office here has forecast possibility of rains lashing the region by Thursday.

Amritsar was the hottest place in Punjab recording a high of 44.8 deg C, up five notches followed by 42.6 deg C at Ludhiana, three above normal, MeT officials said.

Patiala, too, experienced a hot day at 41.6 deg C, up three degrees.

Chandigarh had a sultry weather, with maximum settling at 38.9 deg C.

In Haryana, Hisar was the hottest place at 44 deg C, up three degrees while Narnaul and Bhiwani sizzled at 43.5 deg C and 43 deg C, up by three degrees each.
 

Ambala and Karnal registered near similar highs at 38.8 deg C and 38.6 deg C, respectively.

Hot weather coupled with high humidity levels and unscheduled power cuts have added to the woes of the people.

Many residents complained that the power supply was erratic and cuts were imposed in an unscheduled manner at some places.

Meanwhile, the MeT has forecast possibility of dust storm or thunder storm with light rain lashing few pockets in the two states over the next two days followed by some rainfall activity in the region thereafter.
