Punjab government today sought applications from interested land owners for self-identification of mines under the Punjab Minor Mineral Rules, 2013.

Land, where natural resources like gravel, sand and others are found have very limited crop production, said a spokesman of the Industry Department adding, under clause 6 of the Punjab Minor Mineral Rules-2013, the state government has provided the "self identification of mines" facility to land owners, aimed at aiding the construction industry.

He said, the department of Industry and Commerce will select the mining areas on basis of applications received according to government guidelines.

The owners of selected mines will have to obtain environment clearance certificate issued from district level committees, he said.

The identified area should be outside the buffer zone declared by forest department as mining is strictly banned in there, added the spokesman.
