Concerned over possible exploitation of students by private universities, Punjab Higher Education and Languages Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra today instructed department officials to prepare a draft of the regulatory authority to monitor them.

Presiding over a meeting of the Higher Education department officials here, Rakhra said that a meeting should be convened immediately to prepare the draft of the regulatory authority and discuss each and every aspect minutely.

He reiterated that Punjab government is committed to the welfare of the students and their exploitation, if any, by the private universities would not be tolerated.

Rakhra also reviewed the 11 government colleges that are under construction. He said that financial arrangements have been made in adequate measure regarding these colleges and studies must begin in these colleges from next academic session.

He also reviewed the skill development projects being under taken in 13 colleges of the state.

The Minister also instructed the officers of the department to hold meeting of Department Promotion Committee (DPC) next January so as to promote senior professors to the post of principals.
