A group of Mahila Congress workers from Punjab today held a protest against their national chief and party spokesperson Shobha Oza over the appointment of the women wing's state president.

Amid sloganeering at the lawns of AICC headquarters here, former vice president of the Mahila Congress in Punjab Harsimranjit Kaur said, "The lady appointed to the important post of Mahila Congress in Punjab is a person who turned a rebel and contested as independent against our party candidate from Adampur constituency of Jalandar district".

The group of women have also written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on this matter.

Interestingly, the protest was held at a time when Oza was giving a press conference at the premises.

When asked about the protest, Oza denied the allegations saying the woman in question- Kittu Grewal - had withdrawn in favour of the official candidate at the last moment.
