Vigilance sleuths today caught a junior engineer (JE) of Punjab Mandi Board red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Mukhtiar Singh, DSP of Vigilance Bureau, Ferozepur said that on the basis of a complaint lodged by contractor Harinder Pal Singh of Faridkot, the vigilance team today arrested JE Kewal Krishan.
The contractor had been allocated some work for construction of road by Punjab Mandi Board. The JE had allegedly demanded bribe of of Rs 25,000 to pass the work bill, the DSP said.

He said that a deal was later settled for Rs 15,000 and accordingly the complainant handed over the money to the accused today.
The DSP said that the amount was recovered on the spot by the vigilance team following which the JE was taken into custody. A case under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused, he added.
