Punjab moots policy to protect tax evasion whistleblowers

The policy is aimed at involving the pubic at large in assuring tax compliance by traders, industrialists and individual tax payers, A Venu Prasad, Excise and Taxation Commissioner said.

It assures anonymity of the informers besides offering them incentives, which they would be awarded confidentially, he said.

Firms and dealers involved in preparation of fake bills that help in tax evasion are also under the scanner, he said.

Informers who tip the department regarding dealers and transporters carrying goods from railway stations without declaring required information to the department would also be awarded, he said.
