A man was booked for allegedly defrauding his NRI brother here, police today said.

A US-based NRI Ashwani Kumar, originally belonging to Phagwara, lodged a complaint against his brother Pawan Kumar.

He told police that his father had died in 1990 and he had given a power of attorney to his brother for taking care of the inherited property.

But he had legally terminated the power of attorney in 2000, police said.

Despite this, his brother, allegedly in collusion with some bank staff, had misappropriated lakhs of rupees from his NRI account in a local branch of a public sector bank in 2011.

The NRI, on a visit to his native place here these days, came to know of it when he found that very little amount was left in his account as his brother had allegedly embezzled lakhs of rupees, police said.

On his complaint, a case under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC was registered against his brother, police said.
