Punjab offers three sites for AIIMS-like institution

To set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institute in Punjab, the state government has chosen three sites of 200-acre each in Kapurthala district and will send a detailed report to the Centre about it for further action.

To provide best healthcare and medical facilities to the people of the region, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today short-listed the sites at a meeting here today, a spokesman said.

The Chief Minister asked the Principal Secretary Health to immediately send a detailed letter informing the Union Ministry of Health about the proposed sites for the construction of AIIMS-like institute as identified by the district administration Kapurthala.
 

Badal recently met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in Delhi to urge him establish AIIMS-like institute in Punjab under the Central scheme for setting up of such institutions.

The Chief Minister also directed the Principal Secretary Health to request the Union Ministry of Health to immediately send its team to visit these sites to finalise the land for this purpose, the spokesman said.

The Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala D S Mangat assured that the possession of the land would be handed over to the Ministry immediately after getting its nod for the selection of the site.
