A Punjab police constable was today arrested by a team of Vigilance Bureau here for allegedly taking a bribe for quashing an FIR against one person.
According to a complaint filed by one Kulwinder Singh, a resident of village Gulwati of district Patiala, Constable Bhupinder Singh demanded Rs 15,000 for quashing an FIR against him, Vigilance Bureau Inspector Randhir Singh said.
A case was registered against Kulwinder at Bugga Kalan chowki under Amloh Police Station on April 12, 2014 under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC but a compromise was reached later with the complainant.

The constable had then demanded the bribe for quashing the FIR and the deal was fixed at Rs 10,000, Randhir said.
On the complaint of Kulwinder, Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested Bhupinder near Anaj Mandi in Amloh while accepting the bribe money of Rs 10,000.
A case was registered against him under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
