A Punjab Police constable was today allegedly thrashed by a woman after being tied to a tree in Machakimal Singh village here, police said.

While the constable, Iqbal Singh, claimed that he had gone to the woman's house to ask her to return the money she had borrowed from him, she alleged that he had misbehaved with her and harassed her, they said.

Singh told the police that he had gone to ask her to return the money, but even before he could do so, he was allegedly dragged inside by the woman's family and tied to a tree following which she thrashed him, they said.

He was freed after the police arrived on the scene.

A video of the incident surfaced on social media in which Singh could be seen purportedly being thrashed by the accused.

Investigating Officer Harvinder Singh said the police had registered a case against 11 people, including the four members of the woman's family, and further investigations in the case were on.
