A farmers' organisation today claimed that police foiled its proposed road block agitation by arresting around 700 protesters across Punjab.
The call for the agitation from 12 PM to 3 PM was given by BKU (Ugrahan) across the state to demand release of nine farmers arrested from Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts for opposing replacement of electricity meters at their houses.
"700 farmers were arrested today by the police," BKU (Ugrahan) general secretary Sukhdev Singh said, admitting that police succeeded in foiling their proposed agitation.
