Punjab Police seize raw material for synthetic drugs in Thane

Punjab Police have unearthed a huge cache of raw material for synthetic drugs during raids on a factory in Maharashtra's Thane, a senior police officer said here today.

With help from Mumbai Police, the raids were conducted on the premises of Medicraft Private Limited in Thane on January 17 and 18, Punjab ADGP (Security) Dinkar Gupta said, adding the raids were carried out following the arrests of Sanjay Goel from Delhi and Basant Srivastav from Mumbai.

Punjab Police have secured the remand of Srivastav and Goel till January 25, he said in a statement.

The raids were conducted as part of the ongoing probe after the arrest of Devinder Singh alias Dev, the "mastermind of an international synthetic drug racket", he said.
 

Police have recovered 42 litres of monomethyl amine (raw material for methamphetamine), an extremely potent raw material from which ICE, a new form of intoxicant drug, is manufactured directly, and 881 kgs of diphenoxylate hydrochloride that is used to manufacture lomotil, phenotil, momotil - widely available in Punjab, he added.
