Punjab power officials nabbed while taking bribe

A sub divisional officer and assistant junior engineer of a power utility firm were nabbed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000.

An official spokesperson of the vigilance bureau said, SDO Baldev Singh and AJE Rajesh Kumar, both posted at PSPCL Khanna-2, were caught red handed on the complaint of Sunil Gujral in Ludhiana.

He said the complainant approached the bureau and informed that both the accused were demanding bribe of Rs 3 lakh from him to remove the overhead wires passing over his residential house.

Under the deal, Rs one lakh was to be given in advance and the remaining amount was to be handed over after removing these 11 KV wires.
 

The complaint also informed that he had already paid Rs 20,000 to the accused as a part of first instalment and the remaining amount of Rs 80,000 was to be handed over the next day.

The spokesman said after verifying his information the vigilance team laid a trap and both the accused were caught red handed while accepting Rs 80,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under section 7, 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against the accused at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana and further investigation is on.
