Punjab prepares plan for well being of physically challenged

Three vocational rehabilitation centres for handicapped persons were being run by the social security, women and child development department Punjab, at Ludhiana, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur where training in different types of trades like tailoring, cutting, embroidery, typing and stenography was imparted to disabled men and women from the age groups of 18 to 40 years, a official spokesman said here today.

A sum of Rs 500 as stipend has been given to each student of these centres.

A budgeted provision of Rs 60,77,000 had been made under this scheme for the year 2011-12 and an amount of Rs 58,82,589 had been spent to cover 36 beneficiaries up to March, 2012.
